Demonstration fall with the 3103107 UltraLok SRL

Demonstrating a DBI Self Retracting Lifeline

http://www.pksafety.com/sereli.html In this video we will be demonstrating a DBI Self Retracing Lifeline. Be sure to watch our earlier video of the restraint type lanyard fall demonstration. Once you see this, I’m sure you’ll agree that having a shock-absorbing feature is a must, and that having an SRL makes a huge difference!

Fall protection serves two purposes: First it keeps you from hitting the ground in the event of the fall, and second it keeps the arresting forces on your body to a minimum. The legal maximum impact force allowed to be experienced in a fall is 1800 lbs, as required by OSHA. With just a restraint lanyard, you might experience as much as 4000 lbs or force on your body when you are jerked to a stop. The shock-absorbing feature included on Capital Safety’s SRL’s is designed to keep these forces to less than 900 lbs. This video shows a simulated fall with an SRL, specifically the 3103107 Ultra-Lok SRL by Capital Safety.

The Ultra-Lok SRL is housed in durable glass-filled polyurethane. It has a 1 inch web lifeline and aluminum side plates for maximum durability but keeping weight to a minimum. Ultra-Lok SRL systems have an anti-ratcheting twin disc brake system with an audio indicator to let you know it is functioning properly, for added security.

DBI 1113004 ExoFit NEX Vest Style Harness w/ Revolver adjustment

DBI’s 1113004 ExoFit NEX Vest Style Fall Protection Harness w/ Aluminum Back D-ring & Locking Quick Connect Buckles

In this video we will be looking at DBI’s 1113004 ExoFit NEX Vest Style Fall Protection Harness w/ Aluminum Back D-ring & Locking Quick Connect Buckles.

This ExoFit NEX Full Body Harness comes in a basic vest style. A single aluminum d-ring on the back of the harness is intended for use in standard fall protection applications. The sheer number of  innovative features in this harness is extensive.

Firstly, the forged aluminum d-ring feels feather light compared to the older steel versions. This makes the whole harness feel lighter, which is a huge plus if you are wearing it all day. Many of the harnesses out there today are hard to adjust, which means that many of our customers don’t wear their harnesses properly adjusted. This harness eliminates that hassle with really cool roller adjusters for the shoulder straps. They are quick, easy to use and eliminate any excess webbing flapping about.

Since their introduction, the ExoFit family of harnesses has been our best sellers. Although they cost a little bit more, I think you’ll find it worth it. Once you try one on, it is hard to go back to whatever brand you were using.

Duo-Lok lightweight connectors on legs and chest offer one-handed use w/ memory-fit webbing that locks in place. Hybrid Comfort Padding wicks away moisture. The Tech-Lite Aluminum d-ring is made of a lightweight forged alloy for a noticeably reduced weight vs. steel. Repel Technology Webbing provides up to 5 times more abrasion resistance and water repellency compared to other harnesses to keep your harness clean. Suspension Trauma Straps are attached at the hips, keeping you prepared for after a fall. Reflective material provides better visibility. An Impact Indicator rips to show if the harness has been used in a fall. Built in carrying pockets on chest can hold a cell phone or small radio. Durable plastic shoulder caps provide comfort and protection when carrying heavy materials. A breakaway lanyard keeper can hold over-sized hooks. Max Capacity 420lbs including tools and accessories. Meets or exceeds all applicable industry standards including OSHA and ANSI including the stringent ANSI Z359.

Demonstrating the DBI Shockwave type fall protection lanyard

Demonstrating the DBI Shockwave type fall protection lanyard

In this video we will be demonstrating a shockwave type fall protection lanyard. After watching our earlier video of the restraint type lanyard fall demonstration, I’m sure you’ll agree that having a shock-absorbing feature is a must.

Fall protection is designed to serve two purposes: First to keep you from hitting the ground in the event of the fall, and second to keep the arresting forces on your body to a minimum. With just a restraint lanyard, you might experience as much as 4000 lbs or force on your body when you are jerked to a stop. The shock-absorbing feature on lanyards is designed to keep these forces to less than the OSHA mandated 1800 lbs. This video shows a simulated fall with a shockwave type lanyard, specifically the ShockWave2 1244306 shock-absorbing lanyard by Capital Safety.

This ShockWave2 lanyard limits the arresting forces on your body to less than 900 lbs (the ANSI standard) by using a unique inner core that immediately begins to extend and absorb energy during a fall. This meets or exceeds all applicable industry standards including OSHA, ANSI and the NEW stringent 2007 ANSI Z359. You can easily tell when a shockwave lanyard has been in a fall because an impact indicator and red stitching will become visible. It’s just another one of the many great features about this type of device.

Simulated fall with shock-pack type lanyard

Demonstrating the shock pack type fall protection lanyard

In this video we will be demonstrating the shock pack type fall protection lanyard. Fall protection serves two purposes: First to keep you from hitting the ground in the event of the fall, and second to keep the arresting forces on your body to a minimum. This video shows a simulated fall with a shock pack type lanyard, specifically the EZ-STOP II 1240006 shock-absorbing lanyard by Capital Safety.

All EZ Stop II lanyards limit the arresting forces on your body to less than 900 lbs by using a controlled tearing action when subjected to fall arrest forces. This meets or exceeds all applicable industry standards including OSHA, ANSI and the NEW stringent 2007 ANSI Z359. You can very easily tell when a shock pack lanyard has been in a fall because some of the webbing in the shock pack will be exposed after the controlled tearing has taken place. It’s just one of the many great features about this type of device.

As you can tell, the forces seen on our test weight in this video are drastically different to the forces seen on the fall with no shock-absorbing feature.

Capital Safety DBI/SALA 9501403 Suspension Trauma Strap

DBI/SALA 9501403 Suspension Trauma Safety Straps

The DBI/SALA 9501403 Suspension Trauma Safety Straps help prevent the effects of suspension trauma after a fall. After a fall, while hanging in your harness, the leg straps on your harness are cutting off the circulation to your legs. This means your blood is pooling in your legs instead of circulating you body and getting to your brain. This lack of oxygenated blood to the brain can cause you to pass out. While the blood is sitting in your legs, it is not getting oxygen and your  red blood cells are dying. Once you are rescued, the dead blood pooled in your legs is released, and can cause toxic shock. If you are not rescued promptly, the lack of oxygen to your brain could even result in death.

The Suspension Trauma Straps allow a worker who is suspended to stand up in their harness and to relieve the pressure on their legs. This is a great safety accessory that can be attached to most harness brands/styles right in the field. Installing the safety straps to your harness is fast and efficient - just choke off to strap and it's ready. They are extremely compact and lightweight so they will stay out of your way while working. To deploy and operate, simply unzip, and hook the ends of the straps together. Adjustments in the strap allow you to get the perfect length for you to stand comfortably in.

The Suspension Trauma Safety Strap was designed to help workers overcome the potentially negative health effects of suspension trauma (otherwise known as Orthostatic Intolerance or Orthostatic Shock). This condition occurs when someone remains suspended at height (after a fall) for even short periods of time. OSHA requires that employers provide prompt rescue of employees in the event of a fall. The Suspension Trauma Safety Straps are designed to prevent suspension trauma while a worker is awaiting that rescue.

Simulated fall with a restrain lanyard

Simulated fall with a restrain lanyard

Fall protection serves two purposes: First to keep you from hitting the ground in the event of the fall, and second to keep the arresting forces on your body to a minimum. This video shows a simulated fall with a restraint lanyard. Fall restraint lanyards are designed to keep you from getting close enough to the edge to fall, not to arrest your fall.

Without a shock absorber, the sudden stop at the end of a fall could cause severe injury. When your harness is attached to the anchor point, you should not be able to get in a position to fall. For instance, the edge might be on a work platform. The restraint lanyard should keep you from reaching that edge.

Because a restraint lanyard has no shock absorbing feature, all of the speed and energy that you build up while falling, is released on your body when you finally do stop. A fall for a 310 lb. person would result in about 4000 lbs. of force on their body!

You will be able to see this incredible amount of force at work while watching this video. It doesn't look too good for our test weight!

DBI 8510140 Advanced Vehicle Hitch Mount Sleeve

DBI 8510140 Hitch Mount Sleeve

The DBI 8510140 Hitch mount sleeve is a tremendous product. It is very popular with our utility customers. The hitch mount sleeve provides a mounting point for almost any of the Advanced Confined Space Retrieval products. The hitch mount sleeve will fit your vehicle if you a square tube receiver hitch. You can have a safe and secure anchor point as close as your back bumper!

The vehicle hitch mount sleeve is made of zinc-plated steel. It accommodates a 29” maximum offset mast, such as the Advanced 1 Piece 12-29 Inch Adjustable Offset Mast. A powder coated aluminum stabilizer bar helps to resist movement from side-to-side. The hitch mount unit is designed to slide into a 2” hitch receiver on an attendant vehicle where it is secured with a detent pin. No tools required!

This provides a portable anchor point for confined space entry, retrieval, rescue and fall arrest systems. Typical applications include lowering and raising equipment and personnel in locations like remote pumping stations or underground vaults. The more distinctive uses we have seen include rescue and retrieval over the side of a bridge, or even at the edge of a settling pond.

Unlike a Confined Space Tripod, or even the Advanced 5-Piece Hoist System,  you have a portable anchor point right at the edge of wherever your vehicle can take you. That is what makes this system so unique. Our customers love having a man-rated davit arm extending out into space, right where they need it. Use your imagination to see where this system might have saved you time or even made the access a little safer.

To accommodate your specific work environment, this Advanced system has many available accessories that extend the usable terrain on which you can safely operate. If you look on our website, you will find a variety of sockets, extensions and accessories are available to make the sleeve more versatile.
